Saint-Louis Emergency Recovery and Resilience Project (SERRP)

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The city of Saint-Louis is exposed to coastal erosion and flooding hazards, worsened by climate change, as well as rainfall and river floods. Between August 2017 and February 2018, major storm surges hit the Saint-Louis coast, especially the Langue de Barbarie, destroying homes, household assets and fishing, school and community infrastructure. Authorities relocated 259 affected families (about 2,600 people) to Khar Yalla and Camp Gazeille, host families or rental housing. Additional households were identified in a high-risk coastal strip about 20 metres wide over 3.6 km.
